New Cheesecake: Michael Breyette

Image
I just finished the sketch for my Cheesecake Boy painting of the amazingly talented artist Michael Breyette. Here's a sneak-peek: Michael was kind enough to provide a reference photo, and I think he did a fabulous job of capturing the pin-up girl spirit! I am honored that an artist whose work I greatly admire was willing to be a part of my Cheesecake show. If you're not familiar with his collection, I highly suggest you head over to his website and check it out.  And if you would like to be the first to see Michael and all of his Cheesecake Boy comrades in full painted glory, sign up for my e-mail newsletter here .

CHEESECAKE Update

Image
CHEESECAKE , my upcoming show at the Center on Halsted in Chicago (curated by David Joseph), is getting even more fabulous by the minute thanks to some amazing celebrities who have agreed to be Cheesecake Boy models for the new paintings. My concept is to show gay men from various artistic disciplines being accidentally stripped of their clothes while demonstrating their craft. Leading the pack is the handsome (and incredibly sweet) actor Jesse Archer, who is being shown in my rendition of a classic horror/slasher film — complete with a kooky, knock-kneed monster in hot pursuit as poor Jesse struggles through some treacherous, fabric-ripping branches on his way to safety. Jesse was kind enough to provide me with wonderful reference photos for the project. Here’s my favorite: And here’s the sketch for the painting, which I’m tentatively calling In Hot Pursuit, Starring Jesse Archer : Who are some of these other guest stars, you might ask? While there will be a few more additions, ...

Horror of Horrors

Image
I’m developing a new painting for my show in June that will be an homage to the slasher/horror movie starlets whose ill-fated wardrobe malfunctions put them in harm’s way. My version will feature actor Jesse Archer (left) trying to escape from an ominous villain (by way of a dark, scary forest of course!) with his skimpy shorts getting caught and yanked down by some low-hanging tree branches. Jesse has graciously agreed to be a part of my crazy project, and I can’t wait to get started on this. In the meantime, here are some hilarious images from the horror comic genre that I find quite inspirational!

Inspiration: Melissa Forman

Image
A few months ago, my friend Melissa Forman and I were asked to interview each other for an online arts magazine called The Artist Interview . In honor of her opening this weekend at Corey Helford Gallery, I'd like to share it with you. Melissa is one of my biggest artistic influences, not to mention an amazing person and one of my closest friends! We’ve been through a lot together (which you'll read about shortly), and I’ve watched in awe over the last few years as she has produced some of the most hauntingly beautiful, intricate, and compelling paintings I’ve ever seen. Go Melissa! I truly couldn’t be prouder of her. I hope you enjoy our little walk down memory lane: The Artist's Interview: Melissa Forman and Paul Richmond Melissa Forman and Paul Richmond displaying different levels of enthusiasm at a Dolly Parton cd signing in Manhattan At first glance, it might be difficult to find a connection between the work of artists Melissa Forman and Paul Richmond.
