Things to Never Say to an Artist - Paul Richmond Studio

Image
Watch full vid on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUHNSnvbjvA&t=1s   Everyone's always trying to get free stuff from artists. Watch us turn the tables in "Things Never to Say to an Artist.” Share this with a creative person who should never sell themself short! Every artist has been in this position before - someone reaches out to you and says they love your work and want to buy or commission something. Your heart starts to flutter, especially if you are relatively new to the art profession and/or desperate to pay off a mountain of student loans. You begin to imagine a future of fame and fortune in the art world. But then suddenly, this bubble bursts when your potential patron utters something from the "Things to Never to Say to an Artist" list. It would almost be hilarious if wasn't so sad. The common thread on the "what not to say" list is that these statements always involve trying to get artists to sell themselves short - som...

Dead Fish on a Pancake?? Pictionary With Intern - Vlog 23 - Paul Richmond Studio

I've never really liked Pictionary, but for some reason, Intern and I decided we had to play it. Now he doesn't like it either! --- Step into the weird and wonderful world of artist Paul Richmond, where anything could go down -- even a pin-up boys' pants! Beach Bum

Here's a sneak-peek at the entire Coppertone-inspired sketch for my new Cheesecake Boy painting, Beach Bum, Starring Alan Ilagan .

Christmas Cheesecake

Image
I am working on a new Christmas Cheesecake Boy painting that will also serve as the cover for next year's Christmas anthology from Dreamspinner Press . I'm not good at keeping secrets (which is why it's best for me to buy all of my holiday presents at the last minute!), so I'm going to give you a sneak peek. However, I'm not going to show you the whole image yet -- just a little tease. If you've been good this year, hopefully Santa will let you see the rest soon! :) And if you lean more towards the naughty side, you might enjoy the cover I did for this year's Dreamspinner anthology, Naughty or Nice which is also available as a snazzy little Christmas card in my Etsy store.

Del Shores Cheesecake

Image
I just finished a new sketch for my Cheesecake exhibit. This one features Del Shores, the talented man behind one of my favorite movies/tv shows: Sordid Lives . With his help, I concocted this scenario in which he is shown filming a sexy scene from the tv series and suddenly becoming the center of attention himself as his loose pants plummet to the ground.  Many thanks to Del for providing photo references and input along the way. I can't wait to start painting this one! Meanwhile, I have two other pantless celebs in the works, musician Ari Gold and comedian Alec Mapa. Here are some pics of the progress on those: And to recap, the finished paintings to date are: In Hot Pursuit, Starring Jesse Archer Say Cheese...Cake, Starring Mike Ruiz Blast from the Past, Starring Darryl Stephens If you would like to be the first to see Del and all of his Cheesecake Boy comrades in full painted glory, sign up for my e-mail newsletter here .

Perez Hilton sketch

Image
Here's my Cheesecake sketch of Perez Hilton, getting his pants yanked down by Lady Gaga's dog while spying on her. Amazingly, he is all for this idea -- thanks, Perez!

A Peek at Jason Driskill

Image
Here's the sketch for my Cheesecake portrait of the incredibly talented artist Jason Driskill : Jason's work focuses on self-portraiture which led us to concoct this reinterpretation of Norman Rockwell's classic self-portrait (with the random addition of myself and my partner Dennis as a mailman and milkman in the background). This piece is officially a collaboration with Jason - I'm thinking of it as the "Islands in the Stream" of my Cheesecake exhibit. After all, every album needs a good duet, right? I suppose we'll have to fight over which one of us gets to be Dolly and who gets stuck being Kenny Rogers though.

Spreading Some Holiday Cheer

Here's what's on the drawing board...have you been naughty or nice this year?

Drifting Along

Image
I'm working on some illustrations for imfromdriftwood.com , a site which publishes a fascinating collection of true stories by gay people from all across the fruited plains. Mine is by an author pretty close to home (from Granville, Ohio), and I'm creating a couple of pieces to accompany his story. Here's a portion of one sketch (showing his childhood crush on G.I. Joe) that I'm especially enjoying working on. Check out the site on July 7 to read the story and check out the final art.
